The Future of Quantitative Finance: Lessons Learned from New Technologies and Alternative Data

July 9 | 10:00-10:30 a.m., HKT

Historically, there exist dichotomies in quantitative finance such as vendor vs. custom built, standard vs. unique, or conventional vs. alternative. However, traditionally opposing approaches are now being used to complement each other in uncovering greater analytical potential. Internal custom-built quant systems increasingly leverage standard components, machine learning models, and precalculated data while hosted systems incorporate more open source libraries that create transportability of code and skill as well as facilitate rapid development. Although this trend has been growing over time, the onset of COVID-19 has fueled its popularity among the traditional manager community as they struggle with access to core systems during the pandemic. Join our experts, as they discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the successful adoption of new technologies such as machine learning and the capitalization of alternative data for quantitative research and portfolio management.

SPEAKERS
John Fawcett, Founder, Quantopian
Berowne Hlavaty, Senior Quant Analyst, J.P. Morgan
Ian Hissey, VP, Specialty Sales Manager, Analytics - APAC, FactSet
Bijan Beheshti, Vice President, Director, Risk & Quantitative Analytics Strategy, FactSet

From asset data, company data, ESG data, alternative datasets and more, a data-intensive approach has become the new normal with practitioners recognizing the impact of what more insight can have. But data overload can become a pain point when workflows around its governance and distribution are not secure.

In this 30-minute webcast, hear our experts’ views on the challenges around data-overload, cost and investment tradeoffs, solutions deployed to meet firm needs, and the value-add from a robust governance and distribution framework.
