James is the strategic lead for Verisk Maplecroft’s work with global banks and institutional investors. He is responsible for content development and frequently writes on political risk and ESG risk in financial markets and banking, and has a particular interest in sovereign ESG risk.
Prior to his current role, James led the company’s Latin America research team for four years, and concentrated personally on political, security and regulatory risk in Colombia as well as other key countries. Before that, he worked at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), where he focused on Latin American defence and security policy challenges, and as a political risk analyst. He is the principal author of a book on Andean insurgency.
James has a master’s degree in Latin American Politics from the University of London. He speaks and writes Spanish at a professional level. He regularly comments in global media outlets.

David Wille
Principal Analyst, Financial Sector Risk | Verisk Maplecroft
David is a principal analyst with the Verisk Maplecroft team investigating the interaction between economics and political, ESG, and climate risks for multinational organizations and financial institutions. He also manages the portfolio of economics and business risk indices for the company’s global risk analytics dataset.
Prior to Verisk Maplecroft, David spent three years as an analyst in the financial services practice for the business research and advisory firm CEB (now Gartner) and was also a researcher at an economics think tank in the Washington, DC area.
David has a master’s degree in economics from George Mason University and bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.
